Evan Smoke is the Nowhere Man. He helps the helpless and aids desperate people in their hour of need. Now Max Merriweather is asking for his help. Max's cousin was recently murdered. Before he died, Grant gave Max a package. He told him to give the package to a certain reporter if anything happened to him. When Max tried to follow through on his promise and deliver the package, he found the reporter dead. Now someone wants that package and will do anything to get it. Max asks for Evan's help in finding justice for Grant while keeping Max alive.

The fifth book in the Orphan X series is another winner. Evan feels that it is time to retire from his work and get on with his life. He wants to finish one last case first. Max is a guy who is down on his luck. His wife has left him. His family really doesn't want anything to do with him. Max wants to help find his cousin's killer but doesn't want to die in the process.

This was a great story. Each time Evan thinks he has taken care of the problem, another problem pops up. As usual, he faces impossible odds, going up against a bunch of bad guys, sometimes with no weapons to help him. I always wonder how he is going to get out of each situation. My rating: 5 Stars.
