With THE FAMILY BOOK, Scholastic waxes nostalgic about the time before television, video games, iPods, and cell phones. Believe it or not, families actually used to gather around, playing games that involved nothing more than pen and paper or their imaginations! Seriously - it's all true!
In what can sometimes be called a satirical manner, THE FAMILY BOOK brings out all the games, activities, and family-bonding rituals of yore: charades, "mind reading" tricks, puzzles, and ways to amuse and amaze your family and friends.
The hilarity ensues with tips on how to wash your dog in space, how to make toys out of junk, and such favorites as short-sheeting a bed and how to vanquish (and even slay!) vampires.
Yes, it's quirky, and yes, it may take a miracle for your family to actually sit down together and try out some of the activities. In the long run, though, it will be worth it, especially to see your mom actually begin to think she's invisible or your dad trying to escape a car that's perched on the edge of a cliff.
