It took me a while to start this book, because I had been disappointed by the previous book in this series--TIME TRAVELERS STRICTLY CASH. However, this one proved to be much better as it stayed more with the theme. The Callahan's series started out as monthly installments in various Science Fiction magazines (ANALOG, ASIMOV, etc.). Later, Robinson was persuaded to publish these stories in book form. The characters are memorable, the stories are both funny, and dramatic at the same time, if that's possible.
I really enjoyed this chapter, which ends with a barn-burning revelation regarding Mike Callahan, his Place, and all of the regulars.
So, if you liked the TV series CHEERS, and always wondered what would happen if you mashed it with THE X FILES, You'll love this series. And if you look hard enough you might just catch a glimpse of me sitting at my usual table, next to Fast Eddie's piano :o)

More stories about Callahan's Place - the saloon at the edge of time and space. Pull up a stool, have a drink on the house, and meet the regulars - who are anything but regular. Two telepaths, an alcoholic vampire, a talking dog, and strangest of all, a 7' alian called Mickey Finn...

I love the Callahan Crosstime Saloon series! They are full of puns and off-beat humor, each novel is a series of short stories. Sometimes you can see the ending coming a mile away and sometimes you can't, but it's a fun ride each and every time. They definitely belong as much in the tall tale category as they do in science fiction. I have three copies: one of my own and two given to me by a friend. One of these copies I'm giving to a school, the other is being posted here.
