I have read almost all of Betty Neel's books and this is one of my favorites. The plot isn't deep, but the characterization is excellent, and the romance is satisfying. Yes, this is an "old-fashioned" book in that the main characters don't lust after each other nor have pre-marital sex. It is a gentle thoughtful romance. One of the sayings that has become a joke in our family comes from the part where the old family retainer tells the couple that the "wind took the electricity," and later, we all wonder if the wind brought it back! It is the well-developed characters that make this book a classic. It is variation on the snowed-in house party theme, only in this case the characters were accidentally marooned together in a storm, and have to make do. Julia, the heroine, is an intelligent, independent nurse, and the hero is her forceful counterpart. I do wish the that the supposed "other woman" would be exposed for what she is sooner, but even with that frustration, it is still a very enjoyable book.

Debbie Macomber's tale is a tangled one. Jo Marie found the man of her dreams but they were separated before she even knew his name. Jo Marie literally ran into him during Mardi Gras in the street and true to the Prince Charming form, he saved her from 3 misguided young men. When she meets him again, Jo Marie is distraught to find he's engaged to her friend, Kelly Beaumont. How can this be? Kelly has been in love with Jo Marie's brother Mark for a long time?
Debbie Macomber has created a clearly tangled web as the reader learns that Andrew has promised his cousin, Kelly that he will act as her fiance to make Mark jealous. How will this web be untangled? Most enjoyable read

I did not care for Jessica's Steele's story.
Most unbelievable tale as the hero and heroine acted most unscrupulously.
[book reveiw] She may be engaged back in England, but on a pre-Christmas break to Chile, Lysan falls in love with the country and with her Latin host, Dante.
[Lysan met Dante in England before going to Chili and was attracted. And when she went by herself to Chili, she knew she would see him at least once.]
