I've read several different "diet" books, and this one is by far the best. The plan outlined is based on biology, and I thought the book does a great job explaining what to do, and also WHY it helps. Giving me a biological reason not to eat certain foods, and to eat particular foods, really helps get me motivated. The biological explanations are not too complex, and the illustrations and humor are helpful too.

Once I got past the cartoons and the annoying pop culture similes, the information found in this book is incredibly helpful. It really explains how your body works and how it uses (or doesn't) different types of food. I understand my body and eating (and exercising) so much more now. I've been on the YOU diet for three days and have already lost 3 pounds and 1/2 inch on my waist. The best part is that this "diet" is something that I know I can keep up with - it's not about deprivation but about eating smart. And I can do that!

There is some very intersting information in this book, especially stressing the need to control waist measurement, not weight. There is humor throughout the book and even the biological sections were easy to understand. Even if you do not follow the plan exactly, it will help you to live a healthier life

This is a good book even if you are not on a "diet". It is about how everyone can eat in a better way. Explains the need for whole grains, what is a trans fat? etc.
I recommend it. SOme funny parts also.

Very informative. Focuses more on waist size than actual weight. Outlines a plan to follow to reduce waist size.

Easy to understand and informative. Helps you make changes in your life and eating so you can live a heathier life and lose weight & stay fit. It covers a lot of things that other diet books don't. For example: most other books will tell you what you need to eat at home but then if you end up going out to eat your diet goes astray because you arent aware of the nutritional information of any of the food you are ordering. A lot of times certain things in restauraunts sound healthy but aren't. This book has a little guide of what to order/not order when going out to eat whether you are dining at an american, mexican, italian or asian restaurant. The book also includes about 60 pages of recipes with all of the nutritional info (per serving) for each recipe. In whole it is a pretty good and easy to use book

This book provides some interesting healthy eating and living tips. It isn't your typical weight loss book because it makes no silly claims. The authors are both doctors so I trust the information they provide about how the body processes food as well as how exercise changes your metabolism. At times, the language/writing style is annoying (is very "jokey" and full of stupid puns) and the drawings seem to be more for comic relief than to provide actual information. Overall, I did learn from the book so I do recommend it.

You on a Diet is a very informative book that helps make learning enjoyable, or at least funny.

I hated the recipes. For doctors who want people to eat healthy, how dare the authors put recipes that include high amounts of sodium. I appreciated the breakdowns but, seriously, 1,500+ mg of sodium? Really? There are a lot of recipes that have high sodium levels. As someone who has a Mediterranean background, I've eaten salads with no dressings. Feta cheese? Make sure you get it fresh from a farmer's market and NOT from the supermarket due to its high-sodium levels. If you want to become a vegetarian, you do it in steps. You don't become a vegetarian overnight. If you do, then you'll have serious problems. How about gradually reducing your sodium levels? Now there's a chapter to include in your book!

This is an informative and outstanding book. I have read many diet books and learned information in this book from Dr. Oz that I have never seen in print or heard elsewhere before. Well worth the read.

While the book is a bit wordy, it really goes into why you gain weight, and how your body reacts to different hings. That does help to know the why of what is suggested to lose weight. I'm excited to give this a try.

This book follows conventional wisdom & standard American diet (SAD). As I read and study more, I question whether the SAD is really the diet (read "what we should eat") that we should be following. I'm convinced more & more that we need to eat what our ancestors ate in order to turn ourselves back to "fatburners" instead of the SAD "carb burners" that we are. After all, how can we burn fat if we fuel with carbs?
