Seymour Simon writes great science nonfiction books for children. The tone is not patronizing and the content is usually just enough to educate the child without making them fear for their life with these scary topics like earthquakes (and in other books, tornadoes, hurricanes, volcano, etc.). The photography in this book (and in his others) is high quality.

Each time I read one of Simon's books aloud to my children I learn something I never knew.

I highly recommend this book and all others by Seymour Simon.

(His space books, the ones where one topic is covered per book, are spectacular.)
