This is a great paranormal series and very different from the vampire/were type immortals. But I hope the next book doesn't have a heroine with issues from the past that keep her from accepting the hero until the end of the book. This seems to be a pattern in each of the books so far and if Lexi and Zach are the next couple, it looks like it will happen again. The heros are to die for- strong warriors, hot and loyal and all very interesting.
I loved Paul and was pulling for for him the whole way and very glad Andra finally saved his soul. Andra wasn't so easy to like, a very tortured soul from a horrific incident in her past and totally dedicated to her sister. I am really looking forward to hearing more about her father. There are so many characters introduced in this book that it could go on for a long series, hopefully. I already put the next book on my wish list.
For the most part a good read, but I agree with the other reviewer, I liked the first book better.
This one is darker, and full of various secondary characters, which, at least to some extent, stole Paul and Andra's (the H and h) thunder... (Though they also convinced me SKB's earned a place on my auto buy list :D )
Also (and this is a bit of a spoiler) The heroine is tormented by something that happens in her past...and it stops her from accepting her Hero until literally the final pages....(and come to think of it, things don't completely wrap up, which means we unfortunately might have to revisit her). The something that happens is pretty major, but the fact that it took her so long to let it go, made it extremely hard to like her. And to some degree she comes off as whiny. She annoyed me so much I actually took a month long break in the middle of reading this! It wasn't until I couldn't remember why I'd abandoned the book that I could pick it up again....and after doing so, promptly recalled what made me so annoyed in the first place!
I liked Paul a lot better...He's what paranormal Hero's are made of :) So much so, that I sorta-kinda wanted something bad to happen to Andra just so he could find someone truly deservng of his greatness :)
so.... an okay book, but I figure only read it if you're interested in reading the books in order.... I'm crossing my finger's the next one will be better...or at least have a heroine I don't dislike quite so much.
I am so completely hooked on this series. I haven't found anything this exciting since I discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters. The synopsis doesn't even begin to explain this series. It has so many layers and characters....to many to explain. Yes the obvious romance happens, and almost everyone gets the happy ending....but not all. Butcher leaves just enough unanswered questions to keep you wanting more. Does Zach find Lexi? Does Madoc save Nika? What happens when Andra's real father discovers what happened? What monsters are the Synestryn creating now, and why do they need the children? I couldn't wait for these books to come in on wish list, so i ran out and bought them, and I'm not sure if I can part with them just yet.
