Wow! If your life has gotten pretty comfortable and needs a little reality check this is the book to read! Father Walter tells exactly what like was like in a Russian hard labor prison camp for 23 years. He doesn't sugar coat any of the details - starvation, freezing cold, rampant thieves, brutal interrogations and friendships. Through countless situations where he was personally part of or witnessed the degradation of the human person, he never lost his faith or belief that God is the author or all life. My favorite quote....
" ......the lesson that would keep me going in the years to come: religion, prayer, and love of God do not change reality, but they give it a new meaning. Nothing that happened in my life was anything else than a reflection of God's will for me." Father Walter J Ciszek, S.J.
