I love this enchanting story! It is so unique. I haven't read anything like it before. Combine the "present" of 2025 with mid-19th century history. Mix in intrigue, suspense and romance. Add interesting and engaging characters. The result is a poignantly touching novel.

The setting is a pristine island of beauty in the southern hemisphere. It is so inviting and vividly portrayed that I felt like I was actually there. There are great characters. Conner Bradshaw is a very appealing hero, who had many of the attributes we all love in our heroes--kindness, gallantry, and genuineness of character. Oh, and he's also good-looking. I especially like his obvious respect for the people of the Land and their way of life--so very different from his own. Lydia Colburn is a woman to be admired--a dedicated physician, committed to her patients and her community. She is a beautiful heroine in both body and spirit. One of my favorite characters is John Colburn, Lydia's father. I love his calm, intelligent ways. He is definitely a man of wisdom.

There is a spiritual theme of good vs. evil that runs throughout the story, which portrays how different people deal differently with evil near and far. There is the question--is God in control and if so, does He punish man's rebellion? The reader is left to make up her own mind.

Don't be put off by the speculative aspect of this book. There is plenty of history and romance to counterbalance the science fiction. Actually, this is a good novel for anyone who might like an opportunity to peek into this genre, without jumping in head first. The Land Uncharted is not only for those who enjoy speculative fiction, but also for historic fiction readers and those who love romance with a bit of intrigue. I highly recommend this book.
