I could not get into this book and finally gave up. The whole book did not seem real to me.
I didn't care enough to find out whether "mom" is mentally ill, or just an alcoholic. The sibling squabbles seemed contrived. Copper is 12--the one night her current caretaker decides to leave her home alone, something happens to bring the police into it. One of her uncles just happens to be running for state senate. I did not get far enough go meet "weird Aunt Maggie" (who it seems is a witch).
(No spoilers intended--most of what I gave away is from the first 2 pages anyway.)
