All those who gave in their names on Monday night came again. This looks like being in earnest. We spent about two hours and a half with them, questioning them, and finding out all their failings. There were present several of Mr. Kayser's old and trusted people to assist us. One of these was a policeman, and had had the opportunity of making the acquaintance of some of the men, in the way of giving them a night's lodging for drunkenness. We selected twelve men, including one white man, Crossley. We have now made up the number to fourteen, and this is all I shall care to take. Of these only, one is a Christian, and that is the Molcpolole man; but several are well disposed, and well spoken of. I must now go to the magistrate, and ascertain when it will be convenient for him to have my men before him to sign the agreement. I must have them all also examined by a doctor and vaccinated, . and myself too. Friday afternoon, llth.—The Natal has been telegraphed from Mossel Bay, and will be here early in the morning, leaving again probably before noon. Another stage is about to commence. May God be with us ! I have had a busy week! S. S. Natal, May 21st, 1877. I Had not time to tell you much about my visit to Natal. The folks there were very kind and hearty. The Scots of Glenugie were very kind, homely folks. Old Mr. Scott was a Presbyterian minister in Natal, but has long retired. Both he and his wife are still hale and vigorous in body and mind.
