Ruhlman's book looks at the impact celebrity has had on chefs and the struggle for chefs to find new frontiers in the kitchen. Of the three books in Ruhlman's trilogy: The Making of a Chef, The Soul of a Chef, and this one, it is the most removed from the kitchen. I loved the first two books, but The Reach of a Chef seems more philosophical and doesn't provide the same visceral, sensory documentation of the food chefs prepare as the others.
