Roanoke is a story of the early English settlers of Virginia. It starts with Queen Elizabeth's life style and her granting permission for the voyage. The pending war with Spain and the conflict between English and Spanish expeditions. The background of the settlers who were chosen to go to the New World. The exchanges, both friendly and warlike between the settlers and the native Americans. There is a love story between an explorer and an Indian princess. The story jumps back and forth between England and America and at times I got somewhat lost but overall, I enjoyed this historical fiction novel.
