I must admit to being biased when writing a review of a book written by Sharan Newman. I believe that she is an excellent author of both works of fiction and history. You know, when you pick up one of her books, it will be a well-researched and entertaining read. The majority of Ms. Newmans books, both fiction and non-fiction, pertain to Medieval History; however, this book is set in Portland, OR of the late 1860s. As with all of her mystery works, the plot keeps your attention and her prose flows with elegance. I will not give anything away other than to say this is an excellent read for those who enjoy a good who done it.
