This book introduces a new hero and heroine, vampire Sophia and human Colin. And theyre good characters and I enjoyed them but I was really glad to see that Raphael and Cyn played significant roles as well. They are two of the reasons that I fell in love with this series, and it was great to see how their relationship as a couple has progressed.
Vampires are being murdered, including some belonging to the Canadian Lord, as well as two belonging to Raphael. This brings Raphael and Cyn to the Northwest to check up on his other vampire children as well as to investigate the murders. Quite a bit of the story is told from their point of view. The rest of course, is told from Sophia and Colins.
The book itself proceeds with spectacular action. There is jeopardy, jeopardy, and more jeopardy. There are bad guys - really, really, bad guys who get what they deserve. And of course, there is true love

As is frequently the case with this author, the epilogue is a teaser for the next book which will tell Duncans story. Thankfully it is already out and I will be pursuing it very soon.

This was my least favorite of the series so far, Sophie was not a great character. And her and Colins story line was really just a tie in for the real story. Raphael and Cyn are called to investigate the deaths of 2 of Raphaels vampires. The storyline is a murder mystery plot, but somehow starts with Sophia's sire Lucien screwing up royally in Vancover. I think this story could have survived without Sophia all together and could just have been another Raphael and Cyn mystery. But I'm not the author, just the reader. And I found myself skimming the book through most of the interaction between Sophia and Colin, they just didn't hold any interest for me. Overall, it just seemed like this was a bridge or "filler" until we get to the next book, which is about Duncan. I am really looking forward to Duncan's story.
