I am from Florida and can relate to the settings that Carl Hiaasen sets for this book. You should know that the audience for the book is upper teens to adults. Don't get this book if you are looking for a "Hoot" type book for your child. I loved the book and thought that there were many funny parts in it. Kept me reading on my long flight overseas.

This was another wonderful, in-depth read by this author. I love how he can make his characters and the plot very complex even though it's just a stand-alone book. An excellent read with humor and action.

I got this book to replace the one I bought originally, when it was first published. I've now read Topurist Season 3 times, have loaned it out innumerable times, and shall re-read it periodically. Obviously, it's one of my favorites, and Hiaasen is one of my favorite authors.

Anyone who can appreciate Will Rogers' humor ("There ought to be one day - just one - when there is open season on senators...") would naturally appreciate a Florida native son's plea for an open season on tourists.

This was a highly entertaining, lite read ideal for taking to the gym, relaxing by the beach, or carrying with you for a coffee. Just a bit of warning about the language...Some of these characters are pretty rough, and there is usage of "g**d***" throughout. There are also a few references to the n-word. This took away some from my liking of the book.

Great beach read--goes in a couple tangents that don't make sense, but are still fun to read.

Darkly funny and full of twists. Suspense at full speed ahead!

Laugh out loud funny - not usually something you comment about a murder mystery. As always, genuinely great entertainment.

An ex-reporter turned private eye is hired to solve a murder. It turns into a case of multiple murders. It takes place in South Florida.

It is always fun to read a Carl Hiaasen book... characters you love to hate; clever but not silly; hilarious escapades and insightful excursions to Florida's seamier side.

Good Story. Fun read.

A typical Hiaasen assortment of over-the-top characters and crazy antics set in Florida. More comic than dramatic. A light fun read.

Living in Florida, working at a theme park, Carl's work hits home for me. I love his humor, a little trashy in all the right places, definitely "R" rated. Great departure..

These anti-development terrorists start killing tourists in Florida. Their plan is to frighten people so much that they go back to where the came from: New York, Iowa, all the cold, snowy places people fled from to begin with. The terrorists want to return Florida to the natural paradise it was before it was developed.

So that's the premise of this book. We get to read about the murder of an old, helpless woman who was snatched while walking her little dog. Her crime: retiring to Florida. Her punishment: being fed alive to a crocodile.

I hated this book. It was just too callous and mean for me.

Enjoyed this like i have his other books but it seemed to drag at times and was a bit dark even for an author who can kill someone yet still find a way to make it seem funny.

An enjoyable read, though not as good as Skinny Dip, Hiaasen manages to meld comedy and violence in a remarkable way.

Typical Hiassen; crime and dark humor in South Florida. The head of the Chamber of Commerce is found murdered with a toy alligator stuffed in his throad. Now is this any way to promote environmentalism?

Carl Hiassen is a hoot. If you've never read a book that makes you laugh out loud (whether by yourself or in public) then this is a book for you. Laughed so hard I was crying!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's hard to decide exactly what genre this is: It's a mystery that becomes a thriller that becomes a social commentary that becomes.....

Funny and sad, odd and quirky, twisted and serious is the only way I can describe it.

The only trace of the first victim was his Shriner's fez washed up on the Miami beach. The second victim, the head of the city's chamber of commerce, was found dead with a toy rubber alligator lodged in his throat. And that was just the beginning...Now Brian Keyes, reporter turned private eye, must move from muckraking to rooting out murder...in a caper tht will mix football players, politicians, and police with a group of fanatics and a very hungry crocodile.
