I just finished What's Left of Us: A Memoir of Addiction by Richard Farrell, which was his response to James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. Or rather, his response to the fact that James Frey's memoir was mostly fabricated. When I ordered the book, I had no idea that's why he'd written it and I almost wish I hadn't known about it because while reading it, I kept comparing the two. And to be honest, there's really no comparison. Frey's book is much, much better. But Farrell's book is good. It's very good. But sometimes truth is not as exciting, which is why Frey went all Hollywood on us. On it's own though, Farrell's book is worth the read. I like the way he writes and I felt like I knew this guy. Like I really had known this guy, or guys just like him. It's a quick read and it definitely paves the way for a sequel. I definitely ended it wondering what happened next...it was a bit anti-climactic. But it was the truth, and sometimes the truth is like that.
