The plot is that a family goes to visit and stay with her great-Uncle Merry, whom they call Gummery (the GU for Great Uncle-Merry). Three children decide to explore the house which is owned by a sea captain. While scavenging, they come across an old map that is hundreds of years old. They try to understand it and find themselves in for the adventure of their lives.

While this was a cute kids' story, it was very boring at times. The descriptions were fine, but there was such a long build up until the last 40 pages which went too fast. It didn't pull me in as I hoped it would. I know I wouldn't have even tried reading through past the first two chapters if I were still a child myself too.
