A great read for history and puzzle buffs, much better than the Dan Brown stuff. Wonderful story well written. When I first picked up the book I started reading it to see what it was like (I was also reading 2 other books at the time). Next thing I knew I was 50 pages into the story....and the other books had to wait until I finished this.

Okay but not great. Readable. Characters never get wounded or hurt and are mostly unbelievable. Plot okay but book concentrates on the "action" with occasional bursts of character development. I skipped to the end to save time as I had better books waiting.

Ee have this book under a different isbn. Probably published a little earlier than the one listed here. Send me a pm if you are interested.

Excellent readable story...a bit preachy about the death penalty towards the end but a good read nonetheless.

Great story, interesting plot and subplots, unusual location and great characters... all of this makes for a wonderful read.

This won the 2004 Dagger award as Best Historical Crime novel. And it is a terrific read. Lots of plot twists, interesting and unusual setting. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes whodunits...or historical fiction.

Well written, great characters that are believable, outstanding plot.... there is a lot to like about this book. A little tedious at the start (I put it down for a few days) then it picks up just carries you along. Was up to 1am finishing it.

If you have never read any of this author's work shame on you. Storyline is excellent and just reading it you get a sense of what the cop business must be like there.

Terrible book, 530 pages written to justify $29 price. If Alan Furst had written this it would be 300 pages. I kept skimming the last 100 pages just to get it over with. Poor characterization, silly plot, dumb dialogue. If father Demille wrote any of this I would be surprised. It appears he wanted to get his son into writing using the family brand but this is a very very poor start at that. Don't bother with this book, it is a waste of time.

Too much plot. Not as good as his earlier work.

A lot of to-ing and fro-ing. I found this hard to read and almost quit on it. Plot is okay but gets confusing at times.

This is the 1st Kellerman I have read. Given that I have a lot of other authors to read, it'll be a long while before I get back to him. Plot was interesting with twists at the end. But way too much "cutesy" dialogue...it's almost as if the author decided to find a hip way to say something. Interesting but I don't think real cops talk that way...well maybe in California they do.

Really enjoyed this bok. Unusual plot for a police procederal. Plot twists left and right.

Quirky, fun, witty, very enjoyable read. Main character is a good guy with flaws and a sense of humor.

I read this in one afternoon. Wonderfully wry funny stuff....if you follow golf it very topical. Good light reading.
