Please no 20th century books.....that's my lacking category this year and I don't think I'd fill it in 2019 either......

No suggestions, but I'm looking forward to next year's challenge.  I hope to do better than I did this year.  blush

Thanks for putting these together, Alice!

How about in the water, some part of story has activity in a swamp, lake, river, pond, creek, ocean, waterfall.

I’m with you Lynn I failed on the 20th Century one too.

Lots of Gratitude and Appreciation sailing your way Alice for all you do!

I had lots of books for the 20th Century, so no problem for me.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • A book from a series that you have taken a 'break' from
  • Read a book where the MC owns their own business.
  • Read a book set in a country other than your own.
  • Read a book featuring junk food on the cover (brownies, cookies, chips, fries, ice cream, etc.).
  • A book featuring poison, or in which someone is poisoned.
  • Read a book by an author who uses initials in their name

Ok, I came up with a couple

  • a book set in the state you live in
  • a book with a beverage in the title

i love the other suggestions, too!

Janice, the 20th Century category for this year is "Read a book either published or set in 20th century (1900-1999)."  That covers a lot of cozies.  Here is a list of a few mysteries by time period (you would need to look for the cozies).  Many of the long-running series started in the last century, including both Mary Daheim's Bed and Breakfast and the Alpine, also Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand and Henrie O for just a few examples.  And, many classic cozies (traditional mysteries) were from the 1900s such as Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, and right up through greats like Charlotte MacLeod and Joan Hess.  Another set of lists:  scroll down to HISTORICAL MYSTERIES / PERIOD MYSTERIES.

Still over a month to mark that category off your list.  Good luck!

Really appreciate the suggestions.  I’ve got Mistletoe Murder  - aka Mail Order Murder - Lucy Stone, Bk 1 by Leslie Meier, around here somewhere.  I’ll have to dig it up perfect time for it too!

I hope you don't mind me posting

I am hosting December- This book has been on my TBR too Long   It is not a game but you read a book that has been sitting around your TBR for a quite sometime and offer it up at the end of the swap. Great way to read an older book. Lots of chit chat too.  I have caught up on some of my older series.

I finished A Fatal Collection by Mary Ellen Hughes.  Pleasant cozy set in Maryland in a music box shop. Mystery was fairly simple but characters and setting are pleasent. I plan on reading the next book.

I belong to the Cozy Mystery Corner on Goodreads. This month's author is Lorraine Bartlett. I have never read her Victoria Square Series.

Last night I started A Crafty Killing   book one in the series. It is very good.  The descriptions she gives makes you feel like you are right there with our main character Kate. Wish I had read this book earlier.

This isn't directly about the challenge but I was wondering. I have a coxzy mystery book that says on the cover it includes recipies however the pages with the recipies have been torn out. I think that makes the book unpostable, is that correct?

I just finished Shadow of Death by Jane Willan, a delightful cozy set in Wales featuring Sister Agatha and Father Selwyn. She is the abbey's librarian but secretly listens to mystery podcasts and is writing a mystery novel. When the sexton turns up dead, she just knows it's murder and enlists Father Selwyn as her sidekick.

I'm just finished A Scandal in Scarlet: A Sherlock Holmes Bookshop MysteryVicki Delany  I really liked the characters and setting in this one.

Also, I finished In Peppermint Peril: A Book Tea Shop Mystery:Joy Avon.  I enjoyed this one; however, the plot was rather predicable and a little more depth was needed in the storyline. The theme of the book was fun and I did like the main character and her aunt. Overall, not bad for a first in a series.

I am reading Buy A Whisker by Sofie Ryan. She is one of the featured authors in Goodreads cozy mystery group this month. I read book 1 ages ago. I liked it.  I think this is one of those series I just never got back to. I like the cat Elvis a lot.
