Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil - Aunt Dimity, Bk 6
Author: Nancy Atherton
It’s raining so hard and the wind is so fierce that Lori Shepherd can barely see through the windshield of her Range Rover. And as the car continues to climb up and up this treacherously steep embankment on the high moors of Northumberland, Lori is beginning to doubt the wisdom of her latest adventure: perhaps the mind-numbing effect of ca...  more »

One of my absolute favorite Aunt Dimity books. It really captured the essence of Lori's character and how she interacts with others. It shows how human she is and how even though she loves her family she is still capable of falling under the influence of "paranormal" entities.

I admit, it was the 'Devil' in the title that got me reading this one! This is one of a long series of 'cozy' supernatural mystery novels. Unlike some I've read in this genre, the supernatural plot elements are 'real.' 'Aunt Dimity' is a ghost who communicates with the rather ordinary Lori Shepherd through messages in an old diary, giving her warnings when needed - and helping her solve mysteries, of course. In this episode, Lori reluctantly leaves her toddlers alone with their father and takes an assignment to evaluate a rare-book collection, located in a Gothic mansion in a remote corner of England. But what seems like a straightforward job becomes more complex when first, Lori needs to be rescued by a temptingly handsome stranger, the couple who are the new owners of the rare books library are hardly acting like newlyweds... and warnings are coming from Dimity to 'Leave, Now.'
Entertaining light reading.

Love this series. Mostly there are no murders, just intriging mysteries.

Lori is in trouble again! But thankfully she has Reginald and Aunt Dimity to help her out. Very good plot, taking place in an old castle in Northumberland where Lori has gone, in the middle of a rainstorm, to check out an old book collection.

I am averaging one Aunt Dimity book a day. I really should slow down as I don't want them to end. What a fun read they are. I highly recommend them. And read them in order so you don't miss any surprises.

I've enjoyed this series since it's beginning but I hadn't read the more recent ones. It had a touch of the supernatural before it became stylish and enough of a mystery to appeal to all but the hard core mystery readers. It's not quite a cozy but it comes close.

I found this one particulary enjoyable and it made me want to catch up on the others that I hadn't read.

The second book I've read in the series. Just as good, if not better than the previous. These books make me feel ... well, cozy inside. It's like spending time with a really wonderful, warm friend. Like getting a hug. Cheesy, I know, but that is what the books feel like to me.

In terms of plot, I loved this one. Like a Gothic-Victorian mystery, complete with real and imaginary ghosts. Plus, one handsome stranger with a mystery about him. 5 stars, would recommend it to others.
