I must have read this book about 10 years ago. But it has stuck with me. A holocaust story not quite like any other. A young half Jewish teen is working at a think tank in Berlin. Surrounded by the War and Nazis, yet totally interested in the work and social life going on. And then dealing with it as an adult. Wild and funny and heart wrenching.

From back cover:
Berlin, capital of Nazi Germany. A city turned savage in a nation gone mad on the downhill path to defeat in World War II. But within this Hell there is a haven whose inhabitants revel in sanity, safety, and sensual pleasure. It is a mysterious scientific institute protected by the state it scorns. If you are a half-Jewish, 16-year-old mathematical genius like Josef Bernhardt, it is a dream that any moment can shatter into a nightmare...
