Although the Andy Carpenter novels are some of my favorites, this is my second foray into the Doug Brock series by the same author. Actually, I found it more interesting than the first book in this series, and that is saying a lot. The hook with Doug is that he is a state cop who is/has recovered some of his memories from an injury he experienced in the first book. He's gone back to work, but things can be a bit dicey when he doesn't remember hunks of his life before the injury.

This is a strange case because Brock must retrace the movements and decisions he made 18 months ago -- a period in time he cannot remember. When the second victim is shot in the heart, Doug must try to second-guess why he dropped his study of the person who came up as a "person-of-interest" again. The case is complicated and the lively banter between the police officers is hilarious. Pete Stanton and Andy Carpenter (from Rosenfelt's more famous series) make a show in this book, but the story belongs to Doug and Nate. I enjoyed this immensely; I was really disappointed when the story ended.
