Overall this was a good book. It was a little slow in the beginning. I was a little put off by the Spanish words used throughout. There is a glossary in the back of most of the Spanish words, but not all. I found myself going back there over and over so I could understand what was going on. The last half of the story was great, and I had a hard time putting it down. There were a lot of "flashback" type parts, but it connected the story together nicely.

I had mixed feelings when I started this book based on the reviews I saw on this site. I am glad that I decided to read the book anyway.

Although the story was a little slow getting started, it turned out to be a great story - with great twists in Vampire lore. The story had a little bit of everything in it - action, adventure, romance, and of course back story since it is the first book. I liked the main characters - Rafael and Grania - and I loved reading their story (the sense of honor, the dreams, etc). I also thought that the mix of Spanish language in the book did not detract from the story - it just gave it that little bit of something extra - made it more exotic, but not over the top.

I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series to see how the main conflict plays out. I recommend this book!

This book is very hard to read if you do not speak Spanish. It has a lot of Spanish words and I found myself trying to the glossary in the back more often then reading.

Whiteside writes a confusing story, while using Spanish and French phrases, which distances the reader from the plot. Halfway through the book I stopped flipping to the glossary in hopes of gaining the general jest of the story by reading on.

This simple story could have been told much easier without the extensive references to different cultures and veterinarian backgrounds. In my opinion, the author should have used the pages wasted on the glossary to further explore the past and background of the main characters. I did not feel a connection with any of them, and new names were thrown in the middle of the story without proper introduction. While writing this story, Whiteside was too focused on difficult wordplay, exploring different languages and experimenting with complicated ways to phrase simple descriptions.

Very hot. There are Spanish phrases but are easy to understand. A new turn on vampires.

The subject was well written and interesting. However, it was not what I have come to expect from Diane Whiteside as it relates to "steamy" novels

This is the first book I have read by this author--like the other's it was distracting, at first, to have to flip to the glossary, but about a 1/4 of the way into the book, I couldn't put it down. The plot and characters were intense and not so mushy. Great read and there are several "sex" scenes in the book. I will definitely be on the prowl for the 2nd book in the series.
