Tis the second time for reading this book. May even read it again. I feel like it sheds a lot of light on life for the native Americans before the 1500's A very worthwhile read for me. Michael L. Mullins

James Alexander Thom has become my new favorite writer, and this my favorite book. A fictional story based on a "myth" that there was a group of Welsh, lead by a Welsh cheiftan, Madoc, who came to America long before Columbus, and eventually blended with the American Indians to become the Mandan tribe. Thom is a "masterful storyteller" who thoroughly researches all available information about the Welsh tribe, indian spiritual and religious rites and beliefs, and combines them into an incredible story. I was completely entranced and learned sooo much about native american life. Lewis and Clark befriended this tribe and a famous artist Catlin captures the beauty and dignity of these peoples in his wonderful paintings. The comparison/similarity of the Amerindian beliefs with Christian beliefs are fascinating. READ IT!
