The Circus is Coming Author:Noel Streatfeild none on the back. On the inside: Peter and Santa were the most unlikely children to find with a circus, but that is what happened to them. From the dullest possible home with a tiresome snob of an aunt who had been a lady's maid, at her death they plunged right into the life of the circus with their quite unknown uncle. There they went to school... more » with the child performers. They made friends with the horses, sea-lions, dogs, and the men who looked after them. They knew the clowns, and the acrobats, and trapeze artists with and without their makeup on. In fact, as it was their home (though it moved on every week, and sometimes twice or three times a week), they learned all about it from the inside: what it takes to be a circus artiste, and what a serious business it is, getting up to the big top and taking it down again.
This is a grand book telling a great deal about the circus in Noel Streatfeild's familiar warm and racy style. It won the Carnegie Medal in 1938 as the best children's book of that year.
Please note: this is the same book as "Circus Shoes," published under this name in England.« less
