F. Scott Fitzgerald died in 1940 at the age of 44 due to a fatal heart attack, after years of alcohol abuse, nephritis, TB, and too much stress. This booktells the story of Fitzgerald's time in Hollywood, where he was a screenwriter. Latham conducted interviews with Fitzgerald's agent, producer, and others, and also dug up screenplays from MGM archives. He also used Sheilah Graham's memoir Beloved Infidel to tell the story. The book focuses on Fitzgerald's professional woes in the brutal company town of Hollywood, and provides interesting tidbits about other screenwriters and Fitzgerald's friends. It is worth reading for fans of classic Hollywood and hardcore readers.
