I believe the best book written about the "Spanish Flu" is "The Great Influenza." However, that book also has large sections which would bore most readers. Still, the political, social and economic consequences are interesting reading.

This book differs in that it spends a lot of time in the 'present,' describing what today's virologists and governments are doing, or not doing, to prepare for the next pandemic. In 1918, over 40,000,000 people died world wide. The next time, it will be much worse.

If nothing else, this book hits you with numbers you can't ignore.

With all the talk of the bird flu, anyone might like this book... spread of flu at the end of WWI had far reaching impact.
