This is the first book I have read by this author, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this writer.

Josh Michaels lives in Evergreen, Colorado, and works remotely as a contracted computer programmer. On October 1st, his neighbor, Ryan, asks him if he can watch his ex-girlfriend's pregnant dog, Lucy, temporarily while he is out of town. Unfortunately, two days later, Lucy starts to have contractions therefore, Josh quickly takes her to the vet's office. Dr Becker, delivers the bad news that all of the puppies are stillborn due to her poor diet. Once he arrives back home, he discovers a strange box in the bed of his pickup truck. Written on the box with a black marker is "4 THE VET" and contains five small puppies. Lucy's maternal instinct takes over, and she nurses the orphan babies.

Meanwhile, Josh is concerned regarding Lucy and the puppies and calls Animal Rescue. Kerri assures him that Lucy will not harm the puppies and he will have six months to adopt out the puppies. Additionally, Kerri starts checking in on Lucy and the puppies while giving advice to Josh in raising the puppies while Josh continues to find excuses to spend time with Kerri and get better acquainted.

Before the puppie's eyes are open, Josh decides to name them and create a spreadsheet: Lola the Cuddle Dog, Oliver the Explorer, Sophie the Sports Dog, Cody Momma's Boy, and Rufus Loves Cody. Unfortunately, less than two months later, Josh discovers that Cody is blind.

Before Christmas, Josh finds out that Ryan stole Lucy from his ex-girlfriend Serena via a lost pet flyer at the Animal Rescue. He contacts Serena, and both decide she will come by to pick up Lucy right after Christmas when all the puppies have been adopted out.

Sophie is adopted by Jody and Andy, a couple whose youngest has just left for college. Next, Lola is adopted by Matt and his daughter, Juliet. Finally, Oliver is adopted by an older man who loved to go hiking. Regrettably, the people who plan on adopting Rufus are a no-show. But Serena shows up to pick up Lucy. Next, the family that adopted Cody returned him to the shelter because they did not realize the difficulty in caring for a sightless dog blind at birth. Josh decides right at that point that he is keeping both Rufus and Cody hence, both Kerri and Josh end up raising the two dogs together as a couple.

What a beautiful, heartwarming Christmas story!

A great book. Must read for dog lovers. A romantic story which dogs are part of the story as well as a romance in it. Plus it takes place in the fall and winter which means Christmas. An animal shelter which means adoption. Can't say anymore or I will spoil the story. So enjoy the read.
