Hey Everybody,

I have a question, Has anyone heard of the children's book called Dory--The Good Witch?  I have a friend at work who read this book when she was a child and is looking for it for her grandson.  I have not been able to find this book anywhere.  I have searched all over the internet but have not even got a hit for that title.  She told me the author is John Gardner.  I have found a John Gardner who wrote childrens books but that one is not one of the titles.  I just wanted to see if anyone remembered this book.

Thanks for any help,

Phil

Was it this book, maybe? The King of the Hummingbirds and Other Tales  according to John Gardner website it contains the following stories: The title story and three other tales: "The Witch's Wish," "The Pear Tree" and "The Gnome and the Dragons."

Also I found more books by him on PBS using John C. Gardner and John Champlin Gardner in the search engine.

Maybe it's Dorrie the Little Witch.   Patricia Coombs wrote a children's series that were very popular.

The Dory Book ISBN 0913372447 by John gardner is some type of boatbuilding book.  I think snarlyreader is right, I think it's the Dorrie Series by Patricia Coombs.  They are about a good little witch.

I'm sure it is the Patricia Coombs books that she is looking for.  I loved those as a child, and have been trying to get my hands on them for a while now.  I have wishlisted a bunch of them when I started.  Sadly, there has been absolutely no activity on those ques.  You never know what will show up though.

Good luck!

Jonathan

Jonathon,

I think they sell pretty well on ebay, so the odds are probably not good for here.  I happened on one at a public library $1 bag sale and it went into my bag FAST.

I think part of the reason they are scarce is that they mostly seem to be ex-library books.  Although I think some were re-released much later with different covers.

Thank you all for your help.  It was indeed the Dorrie series.  We have about 8 of those stories at our library so I am going to check those out for her and she will decide based on those which she wants to buy.  They are pretty pricey so I'm sure she is going to be very selective.

Thanks again,

Phil
