Mitch and Abby McDeere spent a few years outside of the country after exposing the crimes of the Memphis Law Firm where Mitch worked. They now live in New York City where Mitch is a partner with the largest law firm in the world, Scully & Pershing. When Mitch takes a trip to Rome on business, he visits his mentor who is terminally ill. Luca asks Mitch to escort his daughter Giovanna to Libya. A quick trip to the middle east leaves several people dead and Giovanna kidnapped. It' up to Mitch to break the news to Luca; and try to get the firm to cough up the money for the ransom.
This book takes place approximately 15 years after The Firm, during the reign of Maummar Khadafi in Libya. Abby plays a big part when the kidnappers use her as their contact with the firm. Mitch must get the various partners in the law firms to put up money to pay the ransom. I thought the pace of the book was very slow. I found it hard to keep my interest in the story. The ending was a bit of a let-down too. My rating: 2.5 Stars.

Very boring characters, plot, and setting...need I say more? A real slugfest to stick with it to the end.
As usual, no one can tell a story like Grisham can. Keeps you turning the page but the ending fell short on this one. Climax goes to the end but the bad guys win. Terrorist kidnap a woman Lawyer from one of the worlds largest law firms and threatens to kill her unless they get 100 million. They get most of the money and return the woman....so? Needed better ending
