We are a homeschooling family and have used the Explode The Code workbooks for 4 years...we love them! My kids are able to work through the books independently, the instructions for each page are simple and there seems to be just the right amount of work for each concept.
This series has worked well for my daughter who is at or above average level and for my son who struggles to learn to read in grade 2. He has progressed in reading a great deal since starting the workbooks. He will even complete an additional page or two on his own many times which does not happen in his other books!
My kids enjoy the simple, fun line drawings and sometimes silly sentences, these really keep their attention!
This specific book, Explode The Code 2, contains 11 lessons (around 9 pages per lesson) with the following topics:
* initial consonant blends bl, cl, fl, gl, sk, sl, pl, cr, dr, gr, br, fr, pr, tr, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tw
* final consonant blends mp, sk, st, ft, lt, nt, lf, lp, nd, nk
* Review lessons occur in lesson 7 and 11
* There is a short 3 page posttest at the end of the book.

Good for phonics review and reinforcement.
