I appreciated reading this book, even though my own childhood was very different from the one Louie Anderson struggled through. It amazes me that he emerged such a compassionate person, who continually strives to do right by his family despite all the disfunction. His story is another example that many comedians are in fact tortured souls. Yet by his writing I can see he is a humble and very decent person offering simple yet wise suggestions.

As an adult, dealing with my own siblings seems to get harder with the passing years, not easier. Louie offers 49 tips in this book on how to survive get-togethers and how to get past "the past". Not always easy advice to follow, but good for the sanity and good for the soul. And it's true that trying new strategies beats doing the same old thing and expecting different results. This book contains good insight, helpful reminders and useful advice.
