Burke Basile is a cop with nothing left to lose. Responsible for his partner's death, his marriage and his career over, he focuses on his nemesis, Pinkie Duvall, a flamboyant attorney who helps killers evade justice. Burke's shocking revenge centers around kidnapping Remy, the lawyer's trophy wife. But Burke hasn't planned on the electric attraction he'll feel for this desperate woman, who rose from the slums of New Orleans to marry a man she can never love. Nor could he have ever predicted the fierce duel that will explode amid the Mardi Gras madness, as the clock ticks toward midnight on Fat Tuesday.....when all masks are stripped away, and Burke must confront his own ugly secret.

FAT TUESDAY could only mean Mardi Gras and the madness that goes with it! This tale is about a cop at the end of his rope. Burke Basile feels that he's the reason his partner is dead, his marriage is over, and his career is over, so he focuses his revenge on his main enemy, Pinkie Duvall, a lawyer who helps killers get away with murder. Burke plans the ultimate revenge - he plans on kidnapping Remy, the lawyer's beautiful wife. What he doesn't know is how desperate this woman is and how she is trying to get out of the loveless marriage to Pinkie, but is instead a prisoner in her own home. Burke plans a daring plot that has him inside Pinkie's mansion for a Mardi Gras masquerade party on Fat Tuesday, but didn't consider his love-at-first-sight feelings for Remy.

FAT TUESDAY is a highly charged story in which Sandra Brown proves that she can cross the line of romance writer into the genre of mystery. This is one of my favorite books by her, and I consider it a "stop light book" (one that you have on the seat when you're driving, and while at a stop light, you read a paragraph or two - you definitely can't put this book down). This is filled with romance, wicked attempts of possessing another human being, and suspense.

A suspenseful story of a jaded cop whose marriage and career are over and he is also responsible for his partners death. He is determined to bring down the flamboyant lawyer responsible for getting so many bad guys off. He ends up kidnapping the lawyers wife and they fall for each other. It all comes to a head on Mardi's Fat Tuesday.

Amazon.com "Precise details change with the ages, but you can bet that the first story ever written had something to do with revenge. Sandra Brown continues the tradition with her latest brick of a book, Fat Tuesday. After a gruff 'n' tuff New Orleans narc, Burke Basile, mistakenly blows a hole in his partner's noggin, he vows revenge--not only on the thug who was directly involved, but also on the sleazy kingpin behind it all. And in finest cop-drama tradition, he vows to do it outside the law. Fat Tuesday only begins to cook after Basile turns in his badge and--mixing charm and coercion--enlists various underworld elements in his cause. It's all a little B movie-ish at times, but for every hooker with a heart of gold, there's a fresher character like Gregory, the homosexual hustler who uses his drama degree to Basile's benefit. The villains are bad (can't go wrong with a lawyer), the heroine good, and the hero a big, wounded warrior looking for true love. What's not to like?"

Contemporary: set in Mardi Gras, New Orleans.

During a raid on a drug deal, a police officer is mistakenly shot by his partner through circumstances set up by one of the dealers. Burke Basile, a New Orleans detective, tries to handle the guilt over killing his fellow cop and seethes over the acquittal of the man responsible. The successful defense attorney, Pinkie Duvall, is not only criminally involved with the defendant but also with corruption that reaches into the police department. Burke is a dedicated cop who resists corruption and becomes frustrated with the ineffective justice system, almost to the point of giving up. But he is still determined to exact revenge. He kidnaps Pinkie's wife, Remy, a desperate woman who was raised in the slums and married a man she knew she'd never love. Their immediate attraction to each other is hot and steamy...

andra Brown is one of the leading authors of romantic suspense, a creative talent that please fans of both genres. FAT TUESDAY is clearly a Ms. Brown novel because it is loaded with plenty of action, fabulous characters set in the Big Easy, and a rousing sexual romance. Though the good vs the bad scenario seems at first glance to be quite simplistic (so was STAR WARS), this is one suspense-laden book that will be enjoyed by everyone

The story revolves around Burke Basile, a narcotics officer in the NOPD, whos driven by his own guilty conscience to seek revenge for the shooting death of his partner and the acquittal of the man charged with the crime.
The target of his vengeance is Pinkie Duvall, a wealthy and powerful crime boss. Basile strikes Pinkie where he knows it will hurt mostby kidnaping his young, beautiful wife, Remy, and hiding her in his fishing camp deep in the swamp. But Duvall is a dangerous man to provoke. He sets his far-reaching into motion, swearing to kill Basile for this outrage. Too late Basile realizes how well-connected Duvall is--even within the police department. Betrayed by his friends, his co-workers, and his own adulterous wife, Burke Basile is a man with nowhere else to run and no one to trust. Moreover, he never bargained on falling in love with Remy.
