Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun (Finlay Donovan, Bk 3)
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun - Finlay Donovan, Bk 3 Author:Elle Cosimano Author and single mom Finlay Donovan has been in messes before -- after all, she's a pro at removing bloodstains for various unexpected reasons -- but none quite like this. When Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they had "borrowed" in the process of saving the life of Finlay's e... more »x-husband, the Russian mob did her a favor and bought the car for her. And now Finlay owes them.
Mob boss Feliks is still running the show from behind bars, and he has a task for Finlay: find and identify a contract killer before the cops do. The problem is, the killer might be an officer themself.
Luckily, hot cop Nick has just been tasked with starting up a citizen's police academy, and combined pressure from Finlay's looming book deadline and Feliks is enough to convince Finlay and Vero to get involved. Through firearm training and forensic classes (and some hands-on research with a tempting detective), Finlay and Vero use their time in police academy to sleuth out the real contract killer to free themselves from the mob's clutches -- all the while dodging spies, confronting Vero's past, and juggling the daily trials of parenthood.« less
Finlay Donovan owes Russian mob boss Feliks Zhirov after he bought the car she stole. Now he wants Finlay to find a contract killer named EasyClean who is trying to blackmail Feliks. This is the same person who tried to kill Finlay's ex-husband Steven. Finlay believes that EasyClean may be a current or former cop. So, when she hears about the week-long citizen's police academy, Finlay and her nanny/accountant Vero sign-up. This is their chance to talk to several local cops who are high on their suspect list. It also gives Vero a place to hide out since people from her past are hunting her.
The third book in the Finlay Donovan series is another wild ride. It took me a few chapters to remember exactly what happened in the previous book; but once I did, it was easy to slip back into Finlay's world. The Citizen's police academy is run by Detective Nick Anthony, the guy Finlay has been avoiding for a couple of weeks. He has asked her out, but she knows she has to keep her distance, or he will discover her illegal activities.
This book had the right amount of mystery, romance, and screw-ball comedy. The end of the story sets up the next book nicely. Can't wait to read more of Finlay and Vero's adventures. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
