Charlie Brown! Seriously, that's the connotation I got reading Rachel's story-- that I was reading a the diary of a transgendered Charlie Brown... Man, she had the WORST luck,not the charmed life after fame that many experience, despite not falling into the trap of alcohol and drug abuse...
But perhaps this makes her more relatable to all of us, who would more likely fall into her type of category than the Marilyn Monroes...
It was well written and funny, Rachel's experiences, and I could really feel for how at 40 she hadn't learned to flirt (it's harder than some people make it seem, really), and despite exposure to New York's hedonistic nightlife, she still maintained a naivete befitting her small town Boston/coddled Jewish girl roots.
But, somehow her "bad luck" turned into a blessing, when she unexpectedly met John, her baby-daddy. (Even at the end of the book, their relationship remained undefined, but they were mostly couply.) Unexpectedly becoming "knocked up" at 44, an age where she was more expecting early-onset menopause, naturally was scary for both, but she writes of that, and her son Eli, with such sweetness... And realizes how lucky she is to get to be a stay-at-home Mommy right now, instead of an overscheduled actress, and I admire that.
I also liked the mentions she had about her friend Amy Pohler, which coincide exactly with what Tina Fey says about her, a tough cookie who "doesn't give an eff", and how she aspires to be more like her in that aspect.
All in all, it was a breezy read, that I really enjoyed, and I was so happy for her when she got to meet Eli, who, by the way, is a little cutie-pie! :D

Recommend Dratch's book if you're interested in what contributes to creating a comedian. My daughter, Abby Feldman, is a comic/actor so these bios hold particular appeal to me. Bossypants by Tina Fey was probably the best. Remarkably many such bios(Steve Martin, Carol Leifer, Adam Corola)and I'm never disappointed by fascinating backgrounds, humor and insight of these talented celebs.
