I love this series. All the characters are good but I love Peter. He's brave without excess macho, he's idealistic without being a saint, he's a fast thinker, he's smart but not a total wisea$$. He doesn't get his magical abilities without working for them. And somehow, buildings are blowing up or falling down when he's on the job. In this sixth book, it's back to the hunt for the Faceless Man. Some of the River goddesses get involved, and a couple other magic users are introduced. I howled with laughter during the scene where the brass is trying to put blame on the Folly for not having enough manpower - Peter shuts them down with magnificent bureaucrat-ese: "The Special Assessment Unit has recently instituted a program of capacity expansion in order to build greater operational robustness and provide a more efficient service to our partner OCUs..." By the end, they know who the Faceless Man is, and only a few buildings and a couple cars have been destroyed. Peter gets a lecture from Lady Ty about his relationship with Beverly. Lesley May makes an appearance, and the Folly acquires a Ferrari. And Peter thinks he has an idea where to go next. A new reader would be lost at this point - read the first book instead.
