Just starting a long drive home for the holidays, Harper Hathaway skids to a stop when a puppy runs onto the road. Trying to rescue the dog, Harper follows it down an embankment and into the woods where she finds a wrecked vehicle. Inside are two adults and a baby. The badly injured driver tells Harper that she needs to take the baby from the backseat and hide because someone wants that baby dead. Doing as instructed, Harper takes the baby and disappears. She calls a friend for help. He sends Michael Maddox who is in the area. Michael works in cyber security and knows how to read the encrypted thumb drive that Harper found among the baby's clothing. Together they rescue the baby and puppy while trying to keep two steps ahead of the killer.

I'm a sucker for "on the run" suspense books. I liked the suspense portion of the book. The heroine used her brain and didn't depend on the hero to get her out of every bad situation. The hero was smart, willing to help with the dog and baby, along with trying to discover what information on the thumb drive was worth killing for. The romance portion of the book was an afterthought. They only fell in love in the last thirty pages of the book.

After solving the mystery and turning the information over to the police, I wish we could have had a better wrap up to the mystery. Everything happened "off screen" and we were just told that the baby was no longer in danger. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
