"Maybe love is simply a huge chain letter, passed down through the generations. The details of the stories begin not to matter."
Just Haven't Met You Yet is the second Sophie Cousens romcom I've read and loved. I'm a huge fan and am eager to read her entire backlist.
Laura's trip to the Channel Islands is important for business and personal reasons. Upon arrival, she accidentally grabs the wrong suitcase at baggage claim, but was it meant to be? Based on the bag's contents, its owner may be her Mr. Right - what a meet cute that would be! Laura visits many sites on the tiny island of Jersey to write an article for work and to retrace her parents' amazing love story. But when she finds the swapped suitcase's owner as well as more information about her parents' romance, will reality meet her expectations?
Ms. Cousens creates characters I want to spend time with in real life. I appreciate that her heroes and heroines are usually in their 30s, and her secondary characters are very memorable; I adored Ted's father. Her sense of humor aligns with mine - funny but not ridiculous or slapstick. And along with humor and romance, she includes deeper storylines that give the characters dimension and powerful story arcs. Plus the sense of place was strong in this story.
Yes, as a romance, the ending was predictable, but I was invested in seeing how the details would wrap up. This book earns a rare five-star rating from me.
