A book about the literal vs. the interpreted idea but with enough of a plot to keep the 'meta-exploration' balanced with an entertaining yarn. Though this 'glimmering world' is rather gloomy, destructive and claustrophobic, the overall story is a surprisingly enjoyable read. I was intrigued by all the characters except the young female protaganist whose transformation seems minute compared to those around her.

This is a very well written book and I can see why it is a best seller, but it was hard for me to fathom the importance of most of what was happening. Plus I don't believe the heroin was very bright if she continued to live in such a depressing environment when she didn't have to.
