I am going through a terrible time.  I am going through the separation and divorce from my husband and have just recently lost one of my dearest loved ones.  I am now the single mother to 3 small kids.  I cannot afford the time or the money to put into my account.  I just want to delete my entire account.  How do I do that?

A simple message to us with the request to close the account is all that is needed.

  • There is no minimum number of swaps necessary before an account can be closed.
  • You can easily suspend your account temporarily by putting your bookshelf on hold.
    • This will not put club emails on hold
    • This will not affect ongoing (already active) transactions
    • This will not affect Box-O-Books; Box-O-Books needs to be paused separately.

The reason a member cannot close his or her account automatically is because we have to check for outstanding requests. It would be unfair to other members to leave items incomplete. Once a member requests cancellation, we close the account and handle outstanding items.

If you close your account and wish to have it reopened later, just send us another message.

This is from the Help Docs.

Sorry you're leaving! I hope it isn't because of one bad transaction. Don't let one person spoil the whole site for you.

ETA: Oops, I didn't see your updated post with the reason before replying. I hope things get better soon and maybe you can come back. :)

Thanks Amee!  You were a big help and I appreciate your kind words!  Hopefully one day I can come back because I love to read and it is my passion.  It is something that I wanted to give to my kids, the gift of reading.  But my email has been sent and we shall see what happens next.  Thanks again!

Mandy, if you're still checking this thread, I just wanted to let you know that you can always come back to PBS should you decide to do so in the future.  I took a year off myself, having asked PBS to close my account.  In the message they sent me notifying me that the account had been closed as I had asked, they mentioned that I could come back at any time; all you would need to do is send them an email asking that your account be reactivated.  You'll have to start over as far as your Wish List and Bookshelf are concerned, but your reminder list will still be intact, as well as information regarding the swaps in which you've participated.  I'm terribly sorry to hear about the troubles in your life, and hope you find some manner of comfort in the near future.  As far as PBS is concerned, you'll always be welcome :)
