I've recently trapped a stray cat and he is currently residing in large crate in my garage.  He is going to be neutered on Friday..plus get his shots.  I wouldn't necessarily say he is feral...but I'm assuming he has lived 99% of his life outdoors.  He is okay w/ my daughter and myself...not a fan of DH and he hates my dogs.  I really don't want any interaction until he gets his shots anyway.  This is the 1st time I've ever considered allowing a cat that didn't like dogs into my home ...my dogs are little (shih tzus, one is only 9lbs) and fear that is a brawl does break out my dogs would likely lose and I'm fearful the cat will scratcht their eyes. 

I'm trying to get a rescue to take him b/c DH is very, very allergic to cats and I'm concerned for my little dogs but it's been difficult....I guess it's kitten time plus he is FIV positive.  Of course I'm a bleeding heart so I'm hoping I can get him to stick around after being neutered and maybe be any indoor out door cat.  Any thoughts suggestions of how to get him to stay around?  Any suggestions on how to get the cat & dog to get along?  My dogs love cats btw...

After being checked out at the Vet, you could put the cat back in the cage and let the calmest dog into the garage to meet the cat. Little by little you may be able to let the cat in. This happened with me when I found a stray and had to introduce him to the "crazy" cat I already had. I was truly afraid the crazy one would kill the new one. After I had him checked out at the vets, and they stared at each other through a glass door for three weeks, I let the new cat in a few minutes at a time. (He had his own room, with a glass door to see inside the house.) Then I let crazy into the new guy's room, and that was it.
