"Shakespeare Made Easy" books are wonderful resources for the beginning Shakespeare reader, from middle-schoolers to adults. I personally use them to help my ESL students understand the plays we're reading in class.

That being said, this particular play, "King Lear," is one of Shakespeare's hardest to follow at times, and this book can help you understand the different plots and understand Lear's eventual descent into madness. A very good modern text accompanies the Elizabethan text, making it easy to seize upon the concepts shown as well as the basic plot.
