In this 4th Hannah Swenson mystery, Hannahs mother finds a body in the basement of a home that is set to be demolished. Things get a little sticky when one of Hannahs Lemon Meringue Pies is found on the table with two slices missing with very little evidence of who was sharing the pie with Rhonda when she was murdered. The high school principal, guidance counselor and even the local reverend seem likely suspects.

Once again the residents of Lake Eden, Minnesota arent sure if Hannah is the culprit or the only one that can solve the crime. Seems drug store clerk Ronda Scharf had a couple of secrets of her own. Namely a bank robbery and missing money that has just started to show up.

And now Hannah, with the help of her two sometimes boyfriends, Mike and Norman, set out to solve the murder. Once again the book seems more drawn around the romantic antics of Hannah, Mike and Norman with the mystery plot definitely playing second fiddle.

For me this book was a little bit slower moving and not a whole lot going on as compared to the previous books in the series. Andrea is still ditzy with moments of brilliance, Mom is still annoying and Hannah who seems to be the smart reliable character cant get her personal life together, which for me is starting to wear thin. Not as fun as the love triangle in the Evanovich books, but an interesting break from hardboiled mysteries.

I just love these books. They are quick to read and I take them to appointments and read a few pages before turning in at night. I have read about 6 of them already and as soon as I get more credits I will look for more of them to order. If you like some light reading this is it.

There are also yummy cookie recipes in each book. I have made 10 of them so far and my grandchildren love each and every one of them. Can't wait for Christmas to use all my new cookie recipes to fill my cookie baskets.

Hannah Swensen's sometimes boyfriend Norman Rhodes is interested in buying the house of Drug Store clerk Rhonda Scharf. Hannah's mother is showing the house to Norman and Hannah when she discovers Rhonda's body in the basement. Hannah quickly takes in the scene. There are jars of preserves smashed on the floor of the basement. In the kitchen is a lemon meringue pie from Hannah's shop with two pieces missing. Who was Rhonda sharing the pie with? With not too much to go on, Hannah starts looking into this mysterious death.

The fourth book in the Hannah Swensen series felt a little slow to me. Hannah does her usual job of asking a lot of questions to people she believes may be suspects. In between interviewing suspects, she is baking cookies for her shop and trying to figure out what dessert to make for the July 4th celebration. One annoying storyline was Hannah deciding she needed to lose weight because her pants were too tight. She will not get on the scales; she will just diet until she fits into those pants. I got sick of listening to her harping about her weight. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

"The residents of Lake Eden, Minnesota are ready to paint the town red, white, and blue to celebrate the 4th of July - nut the fireworks are already going off at Hannah's bake shop, The Cookie Jar..."

Includes cookie/dessert recipes.

A fun series, with a strong likable heroine, and other interesting characters (boyfriends, family, townsfolk) that surround her.

Hannah Swensen thought she'd finally discovered the recipe for a perfect life. But her sometimes beau Norman Rhodes tosses a surprise ingredient into the mix when he phones to tell her he has bought a house from local drugstore clerk Rhonda Scharf. When Hannah and her antique dealer Mom go out to check out the antiques they discover Rhonda's body in the basement! I would consider these cozy mysteries. They include recipes. :-)

Another cute entry in the Hannah Swensen series of cozy mysteries. Despite all her good intentions Hannah is once agin involved in a mystery when her mother finds the body of Rhonda Scharf in the basement of Hannah's boyfriend Norman's new home. Lots of cookie recipes and family gatherings where lots of talking goes on, taking up far more of the story than the actual mystery. Still if you like this kind of book it's a nice break, although I find the two boyfriend sub-plot annoying.

The residents of Lake Eden, Minnesota, are planning to paint the town red, white and blue to celebrate the Fourth of July-but the fireworks are already going off at Hannah Swensen's bake shop, The Cookie Jar............

Hannah Swensen thought she'd finally discovered the recipe for a perfect life. but her sometime beau Norman Rhodes tosses a surprise ingredient into the mix when he phones to tell her he's just bought a house from local drugstore clerk Rhonda Scharf-which he plans to tear down in order to build the dream home he and Hannah designed. It seems the plan has been cooking for quite some time, and Hannah's shocked. Especially since her ring finger is still very much bare.....
The good news is the soon-to-be down house is full of antiques-and Norman has given Hannah and her mother first dibs. They uncover some gorgeous old furniture, a patchwork quilt...and Rhonda Scharf's dead body. A little more sleuthing turns up the half-eaten remains of a very special dinner for two-and one of The Cookie Jar's famous lemon meringue pies. Now it's up to Hannah to turn up the heat-and get busy tracking down clues. Starting in her very own kitchen..........
