In the latest edition of Muller's Sharon McCone series, Muller seems to have outdone herself. I felt this was one of the best entries into this series to date. The reader gets to follow the trail of multiple investigations from the viewpoint of each of the people in McCone's life. Muller does an excellent job of letting the reader feel McCone's impotence and what drives both her and her investigators. I highly recommend this series!

This book is a treat for fans of the series, but not a good place for a "beginner" to start. McCone is very much in the background of the story, and her staff and friends take center stage. Each has his own story line, developed quickly in very short alternating chapters. At first this was a little jarring, but soon it became apparent that the story lines would eventually come together. It's interesting to learn some background on various continuing characters, and see how they approach their work without McCone's direction. The impact of the events in this book will affect future books in a significant way.
