This book takes up exactly after the end of Shadowbridge, as if you were simply reading the next chapter instead of the next book. This book becomes a little more plot oriented, as the character resolve the problems that were hinted at in the last book.
I had several problems with this book. First, in this book we find that the magical realm connected with the world of Shadowbridge (called Edgeworld) actually borders all different universes - including Earth. I always hate when authors do that books that are supposed to be set in different world, especially in a case like this, where the plot is in no way advanced, helped or made more interesting by the addition. It serves no purpose, and just seems like the author did it because he thought it would be neat if his world were part of our world.
Second, while we knew that something was chasing the main character in the first book, we didn't learn all that much about it. In this book we get all the answers, which is cool. What's not cool is that the main character didn't really work for the solution at all. It felt like everything was just handed to her. There was no real conflict or effort or sacrifice involved. Now, I'll give you that some of the characters around her had a hard time, but given that she's the main character, shouldn't she have been the one to have to work for it?
Lastly, and this is a minor thing, there was no reason at all for this to be a separate book from "Shadowbridge". Both books are about 200 pages long and they read exactly like a single book. It just seems greedy to break them up into two books.
