Good read. The hero's a 7 foot shifter [who we discover looks EXCELLENT in a kilt] and just happens to turn into a grizzly bear. The heroine's a mere 5' 8" [practically a munchkin in the shifter world] mixed-breed who just happens to be Mitch O'Neill/Shaw's little sister.
The author delivers her customary hot scenes intermixed with laugh-out-loud humor. Mix together plots [both nefarious and well intended], shifter prejudices and politics, over-protective brothers [and their mates], and girl roller derby [shifter style] and stand back... All the characters from the previous books appear [after all, what's the point of getting them all together in the same city if they can't interact?].
Pride
1. The Mane Event (2007)
2. The Beast In Him (2008)
3. The Mane Attraction (2008)
3. The Mane Squeeze(2009)

I enjoyed this addition to the shapeshifter series. Without being repetitive, I agree with all that Cynthia said but with all the characters it would be best to read the previous books first. Gwen and Lock (the most adorable Grizzly imaginable) are wonderful together as they deal with family and friends interferring with their relationship. The romance is weaved skillfully through the plot to murder Gwen. And the mothers-in-law are so interesting (really off the wall).
On the down side the steamy scenes did get too drawn-out for me and I started skimming them. The random paragraphs that had nothing to do with anything that was going on got annoying. For me, they never did get tied into the plot very well.
It was worth reading the book just to find out about the bear lips. I won't spoil it by telling you. And the "toes" had me laughing out loud. It was great to catch up with Sissy & Smitty and the Shaw Lions so this is a must read if you are following this series.

Paranormal romance by Shelly Laurenston, continuation of her Shifter series. A Shifter grizzly, and half tiger/half lion romance? Sounds crazy, but the author makes it work. This series is has all the elements of the previous books: crazy dysfunctional family dynamics, kick-ass, characters, lots of humor, and hot sex scenes. I love Lock, his parents, Gwen, Blayne, and the previously featured characters are a bonus. Love the book.
A romantic comedy with the pacing and characterization of a soap opera. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was just too slow and uneventful. There were some cute, funny moments but overall I felt like not enough happened and the characters were too annoying for me to enjoy the fact that this was a character driven plot with a teeny tiny bit of danger thrown in. I prefer my paranormal romance to be, well . . . less normal. I was surprised at just how uninterested I was in the shifter nature of the characters because all they did was preen, act immature, and get drunk and hustle. The well-adjusted family scenes were even worse! They outweighed whatever drama the families brought each other and detracted from the heroes journey by never allowing the two main characters to ever face being truly alone or isolated, thus severing any sense of danger in the plot. And the sheer amount of them coupled with how lame the conversations were just made me want to scream. I never felt like any of the characters were actually in danger, the villains were jokes, and I didn't see a lot of change in the two main characters. I will admit that if this narrative style is your thing, this book is decently enough written (hence my giving it at least 3 stars); it just isn't to my taste.
Always so funny, crass and lots of steamy scenes. Typical Laurenston. It helps to read the other books though so you can appreciate the family and all the side characters.
Gwen O'Neill a Tigon hybrid with a weird neck problem is in danger along with her best friend Blayne Thorpe from a pack of hyenas, comes stumbling across a bear hoping waking a bear with scare the danger away from her and Blayne.
Lachlan 'Lock' MacRyrie a bear shifter was the lucky bear to be woken up by a large cat and a small dog, little did he know his life was about to change for good.
