Mary Winkle Umperdinck Author:John Henry Morel Mary Winkle Umperdinck is a story about a very sad little girl who most unfortunately was named as such. Her father comes home every day to find her crying in his lap. She has no friends because she is always miserable, but what Father doesn't realize is that it is all his fault that she is miserable. The father tries to solve the mystery of ... more »why his daughter isn't happier and further discovers that at the scene of the crime is himself, and for no other reason than naming his daughter after himself. This book is as much about moral integrity as it is about strength, and what we don't know about Mary is that she is strong enough for both: She never gives up and she never stops trying to include her father in all of her crying, so that he ultimately knows what is best for his daughter, and furthermore is at a loss for his daughter. He knows that under no circumstances is it allowable that his daughter should go without happiness, and he further discovers the motive at the scene of a crime that can't be foreseen, and that is that he named his daughter without ever thinking. Mary Winkle Umperdinck is the best little story about compassion and grace, and humbly takes us back to the very lessons that we need to learn once more, until we learn to take care of our own problems before we inflict them on others. The very moral of the story is not to change the way things are but to recognize why they are and the choices in front of us. Recognizing the grace in our lives reminds us that we were once unrealized as intelligent beings of magnificent grace and capacity, and how to find a trace back to our origins again. The underlying content of this children's book on patience will completely restore a smile to anyone's face when challenged with the need to face yet another obstacle in their difficult and challenging lives.
