J | good effefts of cor rq five fublimate JL in the cure of the lues venerea (.as men... more »tioned in our firft volume) has, we are informed, been attended with fome advantage to the public j in as much as our fol- diers, among whom it was firft introduced, are riow not fo long detained from their duty, by a tedious courfe of falivation in the military hofpitals. Nor will this medicine appear of lefs ccnfequence in private practice, when we confider, that among the great number of venereal cafes, which daily occur, there are many, where the ftate of the patient's health is fuch, as renders a falivation either impracticable, or at leaft dangerous , and others, where the neceffary confinement, and its confequences, are highly, prejudicial to the patient's affairs. It is not ibldom, that the peace and happinefs of perhaps more than one family depends upon concealing the difeafe from even the patients themfelves : and fometimcs the phyfician hashas reafon to fufpect the cafe to be venereal, though the fymptoms are not fo clear as to warrant his propofing a falivation. So that confidering thefe circumftances, the difco- very of a medicine, that with fo much eafe, fafety, and expedition, is capable of removing this diforder, is doubtlefs a valuable ac- quifition to phyfic, even mould it fornetimes fail, or the patients relapfe, after the cure has been feemingly compleated ; though this latter cafe may perhaps be more owing to the leaving pff the ufe of the fub- limate too foon, than to any want of efficacy in the medicine itfelf; as feerhs to appear from the following relations.
