I really liked the main character. She was a cop on her way to the top but her jerk of a partner screwed up and she did not lie for him. That, and being a woman on the rise, turned the other cops against her. She walked away/ Then, the police chief talks her into thinking about taking a case as a P.I. where some kids are missing. She will be paid by a philanthropic wealthy man, who is also suicidal to some extent after the disappearance of his wife and baby. Intrigued by the case, she agrees and the chief hooks her up with a new officer just hired who has left his job in a big city to come home as his mother and sister need him. They team up and hook up. They solve the case. In the end the rich guy is talked into starting a philantropic detective agency to help find missing loved ones for people who cannot afford it. He offers her the job and she agrees. I liked this because the main character is strong, yet not macho. It has a little bit of everything, including a love affair which is not a big chunk of the story. I will read the next.
